CLARKSDALE, MS – Delta Regional Authority (DRA) today announced a $4,696,894 investment that will boost economic development and improve the quality of life for Mississippi Delta communities and residents.  The investment will be matched by $6.8 million and will attract an additional $67.2 million in leveraged private investment (LPI) into Mississippi. 

The 14 new investment projects will improve water and sewer systems, update transportation infrastructure, and support business development and job training in communities across Mississippi.  These projects are expected to create or retain 1,044 jobs, train 30 individuals, and affect over 3,000 families. 

“Born and raised along the Mississippi River, I know firsthand how vital the Delta Regional Authority’s ability to bolster community revitalization and economic prosperity within the Delta and Alabama Black Belt is,” said DRA Alternate Federal Co-Chairwoman Leslie Durham.  “By strategically investing federal dollars into physical and human infrastructure, DRA helps alleviate the critical needs of the region in order to improve quality of life for our residents and foster future growth.  I want to thank Governor Reeves and the Mississippi Congressional Delegation for their continued partnership as we work to level the playing field for our citizens.”

Funding for these projects is provided by the States’ Economic Development Assistance Program (SEDAP), which provides direct investment into community-based and regional projects to support basic public infrastructure, transportation infrastructure, workforce training and education, and small businesses development with an emphasis on entrepreneurship, and the Community Infrastructure Fund (CIF), which targets physical infrastructure projects that help build safer, more resilient communities in the Delta region.  DRA coordinates directly with the Office of the Governor for the State of Mississippi and local development districts in the state for program funding implementation.

The States’ Economic Development Assistance Program (SEDAP) grant will provide help to the cities by constructing and improving the drainage system, rehabilitating the stormwater control, initiating and completing and the expansion of Milwaukee Tool and much more. I will continue to work with Mississippi leaders to improve infrastructure by working with constituents to ensure the stability of roads, bridges, and other structures,” said Congressman Bennie Thompson (MS-02).

The following projects were funded by CIF:

Batesville Sewer Improvement Project | Batesville, MS:  The City of Batesville will use DRA funds to increase capacity and functionality of the Martin Luther King Ave. sewer system by rehabilitating the lift station and rerouting pipes.  This investment is projected to create 35 jobs, retain five jobs, and affect 847 families.

Clarksdale Sasse Street Drainage Improvement Project | Clarksdale, MS:  The City of Clarksdale will use DRA funds to construct improvements to the drainage system for the Sasse Community to benefit businesses and residents of the area.  This investment is projected to affect 863 families.

Town of Louin Water System Improvement | Louin, MS:  The Town of Louin will use DRA funds to address the problems associated with the deficiencies in the water distribution system, including old, galvanized steel and small water lines.  This investment is projected to affect 198 families.

Jonestown 2021 Flooding & Drainage Improvements | Jonestown, MS:  The Town of Jonestown will use DRA funds to rehabilitate the stormwater control system in the Parks neighborhood.  This investment is projected to affect 100 families.

Milwaukee Tool Expansion | Grenada, MS:  Grenada County will use DRA funds to initiate and complete the expansion of Milwaukee Tool.  This investment is projected to create 800 jobs.

Tunica 2021 Beatline Road Improvements | Tunica, MS:  The Town of Tunica will use DRA funds to rehabilitate the storm sewer system serving a large drainage basin impacting a local hotel, a large residential district, and a few small businesses.  This investment is projected to affect 200 families.

Madison County Mega Site Access Road Completion | Canton, MS:  The Madison County Economic Development Agency will use DRA funds to complete an access road at the Madison County Mega Site to extend from the current 3 lanes to 5 lanes paved.

Pope Sewer Improvement Project | Pope, MS:  The Town of Pope will use DRA funds to modify the existing sewer system serving the Pope School to eliminate persistent backups.  This investment is projected to affect 42 families.

Jasper County Industrial Road | Bay Springs, MS:  The Jasper County Board of Supervisors will use DRA funds to pave an industrial road for new companies.  This investment is projected to create 23 jobs and retain three jobs.

Falco Chemical Job Retention Project | Vicksburg, MS:  The Warren County Port Commission will use DRA funds to repair a county owned levee at the Port of Vicksburg.  This investment is projected to retain 18 jobs.
