A great deal of behind-the-scenes work has transpired in anticipation for the ground-breaking of the Milwaukee Tool accessories manufacturing facility to be constructed in the I-55 Business and Technology Park since its announcement in early April.

As official procedures such as architectural drawings and permitting continue behind closed doors, Jack Bilotta, Vice President of Accessories Operations at Milwaukee’s Greenwood plant, opened the facility’s doors to Grenada County officials and industry leaders to close the month of July.

“This visit was a well-timed opportunity to get a clear picture of what a Milwaukee Tool operation will look like in Grenada County,” Matthew Harrison, CEO & Executive Director of the Greater Grenada Partnership, said. “From robotics, PLC programming and tool repair, the company is offering great career paths for its workforce.”

Milwaukee’s Greenwood operations consist of three facilities. In total, the three do not add up to the square footage announced for the Grenada facility. Once constructed, the multi-million dollar, state-of-the-art building will be the equivalent size of more than 10 football fields at a mammoth 500,000 square feet with 14 acres under roof. Initially, the Milwaukee Tool site will provide 800 new jobs for the area, however, the manufacturer has committed to creating 400 more jobs to be added to any of its existing Mississippi locations in Greenwood, Jackson, Olive Branch or at the new Grenada location.

With the facility’s size in mind and the number of jobs that will be available once completed, Harrison said the visit “emphasized” the community’s need to grow strategically.

“From the school system, housing and commercial development, Grenada will have to push forward to accommodate the growth in new employment,” he said. “Our organization will continue to lead forward as we position ourselves to be one of the best communities on Interstate 55.”

During the tour of the facilities, Bilotta was joined by Milwaukee Director of AMT Garrett Williams and Carbide Manufacturing Manager Kevin Gibson, who is a resident of Grenada. In total, eight officials participated in the tour, along with members of the local media.

Milwaukee Tool expects to complete the construction of the Grenada facility in late 2022, with plans to fill the new jobs within eight years.
